5 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari in Uganda

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival โ€“ Entebbe International Airport.

After picking you up at Entebbe International Airport, our driver/guide will give you a rundown of the five-day gorilla trekking safari in Uganda. Depending on when you arrive, you may be offered a tour of Kampala City, which would include stops at Kabaka’s Palace, Independence Monument, Namugongo Martyr’s Shrine, Gaddafi Mosque, and Kabaka’s Lake, among other places. You will then be driven to a hotel in Kampala that has been reserved for you for the night and dinner.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After an early breakfast, our driver/guide will transport you from your Kampala hotel to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the southwest of Uganda, where you will spend nine hours travelling. You will pause at the Equator Crossing at Kayabwe, just outside Kampala, to snap some photos and see a little exhibit that proves the existence of the equator there.

You will then continue travelling and make a lunch stop at the Agip Motel in Mbarara. After lunch, you’ll journey through the lush terrain of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which provides stunning vistas and the reassuring knowledge that you are, in fact, in the heart of Africa. You will reach the lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening, just in time for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi โ€“ Transfer to Mgahinga National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will travel to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) staff. They will educate you the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking to ensure you have an amazing experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Guides will be supplied to help you locate the mountain gorillas. The gorillas’ movements dictate how long the gorilla trip takes. You can spend up to an hour with the gorillas if you locate them. Take the most stunning photos of the benevolent giants during this time. When you return to the park headquarters, you will be given credentials for gorilla trekking. You will then travel three hours to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, arriving in time for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After your early morning meal, you will be given a packed lunch. The driver or guide will then transport you to the park headquarters, where you will receive a pre-trek briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) staff. They will teach you all the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking, just like they did in Bwindi. You will be escorted into the jungle by tour experts who will help you locate the mountain gorillas. The length of the gorilla journey depends on where the gorillas slept the night before. Once you locate the gorillas, you can spend up to an hour with them, capturing breathtaking photos and watching their activities. When you get back to the park headquarters, you will be given your gorilla trekking credentials.

In the afternoon, you can choose to relax at the resort or do a community tour of the Batwa people. The exciting Batwa tour is the ideal way to conclude your journey to Mgahinga, Uganda. It’s entirely up to you, although you might wish to bring additional money to help these residents. You will then be returned to the lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 5: Transfer Back to Kampala โ€“ Entebbe Airport.

After breakfast at the Mgahinga lodge early in the morning, you will journey nine hours to either Entebbe Airport or Kampala. The Igongo Cultural Centre will be your lunch stop and opportunity to learn more about the fascinating Ankole culture. Following that, you’ll continue on to Kayabwe, where you’ll make a second stop at the Equator crossing for more photos and souvenirs to take home. If you have a late-night flight back home or to your next destination, you will be taken to either a Kampala hotel or Entebbe International Airport.
