6 Days Uganda Chimpanzee Tracking Tour

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Budongo Forest

After picking you up from your home, your driver-guide will take you to Budongo Forest, located in northern western Uganda, which is a conservation area of Murchison Falls National Park. You will make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary along the way to observe the endangered black and white rhinos that are being replenished there.

Meal Plan: (Lunch, Dinner).

Accommodation: Budongo Eco Lodge

Day 2: Budongo Chimpanzee Trekking – Top of the Falls Visit

After breakfast, head to the forest headquarters for a lecture on the dos and don’ts of hiking chimpanzees. Then, with the help of experienced ranger guides, start your monkey walk in the Budongo Forest. On your walk, you’ll witness a variety of plants, birds, and other primates. When you get near to a group or community of habituated chimpanzees, you’ll have an hour to study them and snap photos before heading back to your lodge for lunch. Your driver will take you to the top of the falls after lunch so you can witness the water squeezing through a crevice that is seven meters wide before plummeting down. After that, you’ll head back to your accommodation to relax and prepare for the next day.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge or Murchison River Lodge

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

After a cup of coffee, your driver guide and game ranger will pick you up for a morning game drive, where you will have the opportunity to see antelopes, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, buffaloes, and, with luck, big cats such as leopards and lions. You will then go back to the lodge for lunch. You will enjoy the boat ride to the falls’ base in the afternoon. On your way from the jetty to the base of the falls, you may view multiple herds of buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, water bird species, and other wild creatures congregating along the River Nile to drink water. Continue upstream to the falls’ base to watch how the water moves through a narrow valley. Return to the lodge.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge or Murchison River Lodge

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park.

After breakfast, you will embark on a longer journey to Kibale National Park. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch and possibly see some birds.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Accommodation: Papaya Safari Lodge or Chimpanzee Guest House

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After an early breakfast, visit the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre, where tourist activities begin, and then head to the Kibale Forest to look for chimps. The chances of sighting chimpanzees exceed 90%, but there is no assurance. You may spend more than four hours looking for chimps before returning to your lodge for lunch and then driving the three-hour distance to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will have the opportunity to pass through small communities, see some of the Mountain Rwenzori’s foothills, witness some of the Rwenzori mountain ranges’ smaller rivers, and cross the equator at Kikorongo.

Meal Plan: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Accommodation: Papaya Safari Lodge or Chimpanzee Guest House.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking at Kyambura Gorge – Return to Kampala

After breakfast, you will be escorted to Kyambura Gorge, where you will gather with other trekkers for a briefing before beginning your chimp walk in the gorge. Your game ranger guide will help you identify the various flora and creatures that live in this canyon, and after you’ve found a group of chimps, you’ll be allowed to spend an hour photographing them. After the chimp trekking, drive briefly along the wildlife routes as you exit the park to begin your journey back to Kampala. Have lunch at Mbarara’s Igongo Cultural Centre. Retract from it and continue on to Kampala, where you can recover before heading to the airport to catch your flight home.
