On the safari, you can see chimps in Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Kibale Forest National Park. During our 15-Day Touring Around Uganda Wildlife Safari, these three savannah national parks provide the best game drives, with opportunity to see thousands of antelopes, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and much more.

15 Days Touring Around Uganda Wildlife Safari

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Budongo Forest

Our tour guide will inform you on your Uganda tour before driving you to Murchison Falls National Park. En there, you’ll stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see the rare white and black rhinos that are being reintroduced. After that, you’ll go to Masindi for lunch before heading to the Budongo Forest, which is part of the Murchison Falls National Park Conservation Area.

Accommodation: Budongo Eco Lodge.

Meals: (Lunch, Dinner).

Day 2: Budongo Chimpanzee Trekking – Top of the Falls Visit

Start your day with breakfast, then head to the forest headquarters for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of chimp trekking, followed by a monkey walk in the Budongo Forest led by professional ranger guides. On your walk, you will encounter other primates, birds, and a variety of plant species, and once you arrive to a community or party of habituated chimps, you will have an hour to view and photograph them before returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, your driver will take you to the top of the Falls, where you can see the water squeeze through a 7-meter-wide fissure before tumbling down. Then, you’ll return to your lodging to relax and prepare for the next day.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge, Murchison River Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

After a cup of coffee, your driver guide and game ranger will pick you up for a morning game drive, where you will have the opportunity to see antelopes, hippos, buffaloes, giraffes, buffaloes, and, with luck, big cats such as leopards and lions. You will then go back to the lodge for lunch.

You will enjoy the boat ride to the falls’ base in the afternoon. On your way from the jetty to the base of the falls, you may view multiple herds of buffalo, crocodiles, hippos, water bird species, and other wild creatures congregating along the River Nile to drink water. Continue upstream to the base of the falls to watch how the water is driven through a 7-meter-wide canyon before returning to the resort via automobile.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge, Murchison River Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Hot Air Balloon Safari – Late Afternoon Delta Cruise

After an early breakfast, you will be picked up by your driving guide to start your hot air balloon safari on the Para side of Murchison Falls National Park. Everyone will gather at Para Lodge to start the journey to the balloon launch location if you are staying along the southern bank of the Nile. Along with the pilots and the rest of the crew, you will be driven to the starting point of your hot air balloon safari. While the balloon is being assembled, you will have the choice of a cup of tea or coffee. After giving you a briefing and boarding the hot air balloon, the pilot will begin your journey.

Imagine how it would feel to watch all of these animals while taking in the beautiful rivers, forests, and the lowering sun from a few meters above the ground. It could take up to an hour to tour Murchison Falls National Park from start to finish. Certificates will be distributed after the landing, and those who bought a full hot air balloon package will receive a hearty bush breakfast. After arriving at your lodge, you can relax, have lunch, and then take a boat journey to the Albert Delta, where there is a lot of activity, in the afternoon. In addition to crocodiles, your chances of seeing the rare shoebill stock, elephants, buffaloes, and hippos crossing depend on your luck.

Accommodation: Paraa Safari Lodge, Murchison River Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 5: Bird Watching Safari to Kibale National Park.

After breakfast in the morning, you will start a lengthier trip to Kibale National Park, stopping occasionally for lunch and to observe various bird species.

Accommodation: Kyaninga Lodge – Primate Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi Wetland Walk

Following breakfast, you will be transported to Kanyakyu, the administrative seat of Kibale National Park, where you will meet the other hikers for an introduction and, eventually, chimpanzee trekking. Your game ranger guide will take you on a guided primate trek in Kibale Forest National Park. Visitors can spend an hour observing and photographing the chimpanzees in this area by visiting one of their habituated groups or sections. Kibale National Park is home to 13 different kinds of monkeys in addition to forest birds. After your chimpanzee climb, you will drive to Bigodi Village for a wetland tour, which is meant to benefit the locals who live near Kibale Forest National Park.

Accommodation: Kyaninga Lodge – Primate Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After breakfast, you will begin your about three-hour journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will get the opportunity to pass through small settlements, see several foothills of the Mountain Rwenzori, see several minor rivers of the Rwenzori mountain ranges, and cross the equator at Kikorongo. Before going on a late-afternoon wildlife drive in Mweya, check in at Bush Lodge and relax. In addition to many other wild animals, this area of Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to warthogs, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and elephants.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge or Enganzi Game Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 8: Game Drive – Boat Cruise Along Kazinga Channel

To make up for everything you might have missed on your first game drive, you will return to Kasenyi Plains for a game drive after having a cup of tea in the morning. This early morning game drive will boost your chances of spotting lions or leopards because you will have the chance to watch the big cats as they forage for their food. On this game drive, you might also spot buffalo, hippos, many antelope species, and many other creatures. It is recommended to have lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, take a boat excursion in the Kazinga Channel by driving directly to Mweya jetty. This two-hour boat ride is one of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s attractions. It offers you the opportunity to witness antelopes, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and more than 300 of the 600 species of water birds that have been identified here.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge or Enganzi Game Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking at Kyambura Gorge

After breakfast, you will be driven to Kyambura Gorge, where you will receive a briefing with the other hikers before starting your chimpanzee walk in the canyon. Once you find a group of chimps, you will be allowed to take an hour-long snapshot of them. Your game ranger guide will help you identify the various plants and creatures that inhabit this canyon. Return to the resort for lunch and relaxation after the climb. In the afternoon, you will visit the salt mines at Lake Katwe. The locals mine and harvest salt from Lake Katwe, which is a salt-filled explosive container. A local person will give you a tour of the salt mines and discuss the process of extracting salt, the challenges faced, and the options available. The Lake Katwe salt extraction project is one example that now supports Queen Elizabeth National Park as one of the conservation zones in the world where humans and animals can coexist happily and ethically.

Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge or Enganzi Game Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After breakfast, you will travel to Kabale, which is located in the southwest of Uganda and is the location of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Nearly half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas live in Bwindi Impenetrable, the only national park where wild chimpanzees and mountain gorillas coexist. As you travel across undulating hills to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will pass terraced gardens of Irish potatoes and a Kayonza tea plantation.

Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge, Silverback Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 11: Gorilla Tracking Experience

After breakfast, you will be taken to the Park’s headquarters to receive instruction on how to engage with gorillas safely. After that, you will be taken to the designated gorilla family’s starting point so that you can start your trek through the imposing Bwindi Forest. This trek could take anywhere from 30 minutes to three quarters of a day, depending on where the mountain gorillas are. Gorilla trekking can therefore be physically taxing, hence some degree of fitness is required. Once you find the gorillas and have an hour to watch and take photos, the experience will be worth it. You will receive a certificate at the park’s main office acknowledging your efforts to protect the critically endangered mountain gorillas. Take a village walk to learn more about the people who live around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after relaxing at the lodge.

Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge, Silverback Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 12: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.

Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Kabale District’s Lake Bunyonyi. When lava from one of the volcanoes blocked a river channel, water poured back into the area, filling it and forming Lake Bunyonyi, one of the three Lava Damned Lakes. Because there are so many of them in this area, the term “bunyonyi” means “small birds” in the local dialect. According to some estimates, Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and the second-deepest lake in all of East Africa. One of the best spots to relax after a gorilla walk is Lake Bunyonyi, which attracts tourists due to its beauty.

Accommodation: Bunyonyi Overland Resort, Bunyonyi Rock Resort.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 13: Canoeing or Hiking

After breakfast, you are free to enjoy the splendour of the surrounding hills and lake. One option is to take a boat trip around the lake to view a number of islands with interesting history. You will visit Punishment Island, for example, where girls who had children through legitimate traditional marriages were left behind and permitted to die. You will definitely like this all-day activity. An alternative is to walk up a hill close to Lake Bunyonyi.

Accommodation: Bunyonyi Overland Resort, Bunyonyi Rock Resort.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 14: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.

After breakfast, take a drive to Lake Mburo National Park to learn more about the traditions of the western Ugandan ethnic groups. On the way, make a stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre or the Great Lakes Museum. Lunch will be provided prior to the arrival to Lake Mburo National Park for an evening game drive and a lake boat trip. Lake Mburo National Park is home to zebras, giraffes, impalas, and many more animals. Return to the Lodge and stay overnight.

Accommodation: Mihingo Safari Lodge, Lake Mburo Safari Lodge.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 15: Drive to Entebbe International Airport.

After breakfast, you will depart for Entebbe International Airport, pausing en route to stretch and take photos close to the Equator.
